Kochi: V.D. Satheesan, Chief Minister of Keralam, held a high-level meeting with Sergio Gor, U.S. Ambassador to India, along with senior state government officials in Kochi to discuss strategic opportunities for strengthening Kerala–U.S. cooperation and promoting bilateral growth.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in education and innovation, including joint research, university partnerships and academic exchanges between institutions in the United States and Kerala.
The two sides also discussed opportunities in tourism and culture, with a focus on promoting wellness and Ayurveda tourism and exploring the potential of “Sister Cities” initiatives to strengthen connections between communities in Kerala and the United States.
Another key area of discussion was maritime logistics and ports, particularly the investment potential of Vizhinjam International Seaport and Kochi Port. The areas identified for potential cooperation included shipbuilding, ship repair, green bunkering and supply chains.
The meeting also discussed the establishment of a dedicated “U.S. Invest Desk” in the United States to connect prospective investors with opportunities in Kerala, support U.S. businesses seeking engagement with the state and strengthen interaction with the Malayalee diaspora.
Both sides expressed enthusiasm about translating these initiatives into active and long-term partnerships, with the aim of creating new avenues for investment, innovation, education, tourism and economic cooperation between Kerala and the United States.
